Ok, picture this… I get a call from a gorgeous girl and her studly military fiance from Texas a few months ago. She heard we’d be shooting her sister’s wedding in Arizona (Heather & Ryan) in June of 2011 and wanted to chat with us about shooting hers as well… I was totally excited.. I love it when we have the privilege of shooting weddings within the same family because we get to see each other again! The only problem was they wouldn’t be in town until her sister’s wedding and they’d be meeting with all kinds of vendors, etc… So, we arranged a Skype Call to chat about the details and make preparations for an awesome engagement shoot up in the mountains a day before her sister’s wedding. After a great discussion we were all set and I couldn’t wait to meet the two of them in person. Wow, how time has flown by!
These two love birds were engaged on November 11, 2010 and will be getting married at Val Vista Lakes in February of 2012.

The night before their engagement shoot I attended the PASS Premiere Tour by the totally awesome Showit team. Little did I know I’d be leaving there at 11:00 PM and headed to the mountains so late! When I finally arrived at the Allen’s Resort (Whispering Pines) in Pinetop the clock showed 1:30 AM and I was greeted by a little note on the counter of my cabin.
“Hi Chirs! Hope you made it up safe… I know we had talked about doing the engagement shoot a little later, but I was wondering if we could meet you at the dock at Woodland Lake at 7 AM. I really want to get some great morning light. Text me if that doesn’t work, otherwise we’ll see you there!” Sincerely, Kellen
So this was the first time EVER someone has out done me on a request to take pictures, I thought for sure we would want to shoot a little later and I would be able to get some more sleep (my tail was dragging)…. as I was reading the note I was thinking “This is gonna be good.. I’ll be delirious from lack of sleep so I’m sure my really creative side will come out!”
Needless to say, Kellen and Michael did amazingly well on their shoot. The last time most people have ever had their photo taken was their senior pictures so it takes a few moments to get warmed up to the camera… but for these two it didn’t take long! Kellen’s smile is so captivating and yes Kellen, you do have amazing teeth… but you have an even prettier smile (wink wink)! Michael’s soft spoken manner totally brings out Kellen’s laugh and he was such a sport. I heard the guys night out had ended late as well, so we were both running on fumes!
Obviously my favorite part of the shoot was when I gave Kellen and Michael the chance to take some shots of each other. It was so funny to see both of them busting out their “Next Top Model” moves. I think I almost died laughing at Kellen’s “Fierce” pose… I spared her the embarrassment and didn’t post that one! After looking at the pictures each one took… I’m going to have the give the award to Kellen’s shots of Michael… very well done!
We can’t be happier for the two of you and we look forward to seeing you again at Mike and Lindsay’s wedding in August!
