Slice of Heaven: Slice 2 – Church, T-Ball, & Warm Bread

Today I woke up so full of joy and vigor.  I think it’s because I got a great night’s sleep and was legitimately happy with everything that has occurred over the last week.  Life’s been good.  I’ve been able to ring in a new year and talked with Jessica and Rob about their upcoming wedding yesterday.  I helped my little girl into her tights and little dress today (which took the better part of 20 min – little wiggle worm) and thought that this would be my slice of heaven today… but then it got better (well, it was only 9:30 in the morning).

At Church I went to pick up my little princess from her nursery class and got the biggest reception.  When I walked in and said “Baby Bear” she turned and with a huge grin came running as fast as her little legs would carry her and ran into my arms.  Her little “Thank you” to the people in class was so precious.   Then, if that wasn’t enough, I spent some time today with my son playing t-ball in the back yard.  I had mowed the grass yesterday and it still had the look of a major league field (ok, maybe not THAT good).  He had a HUGE bat and was hitting wiffle balls to me.  “Dad, back up way over there” he shouted as I backed up getting ready to retrieve the balls.  I thought there was no way he could heft that bat fast enough to hit a wiffel ball very far… but sure enough, whack… and it went even farther than where I was standing.  He was so proud, and so was I.  It was only in August of last year that we signed him up for t-ball and the poor little guy didn’t even want to go on the field.  He could hit the ball but it took him some tries.  Now I felt like I was watching a pro in the making… which will be ironic because I don’t even like baseball, meaning I will have to attend a bunch of baseball games.  I actually think he’s better at soccer… I think I could watch more of that.

It was a slice of heaven that seemed to last all day.  Church, fun, and then friends over for dinner.  My wife makes the most amazing home made bread.  It’s an addiction because I can’t stop eating it at dinner and then I eat it for dessert with honey.   What can I say?  I’m a sucker for warm bread.

I do find it interesting, I don’t tend to take a lot of photos during my slices of heaven.  I think it’s because I want to live in the moment and set aside my passion to remember the expressions and laughter.  I wish I could be like the President, 13 hours a day with a personal photographer.  Until then, I will have my mental 5D Mk II taking the most amazing photos I’ll ever shoot.
