Romantic Sedona Wedding – Sedona Wedding Photographer

Ok, when I think of beautiful, I think of nature, there really isn’t anything that compares to the majesty of a mountain range or the tranquility of a babbling brook.  I’m a country boy that grew up with a stream behind my house and spent endless amounts of time out in the forrest tromping around and exploring. Now, when I think of beautiful weddings… I think of Jinnie and Matt’s wedding in Sedona. As an Arizona wedding photographer it is a real treat to get out into nature for a beautiful affair like this, especially in Sedona. The scenic drive was breathtaking and as we turned the corner and descended down the road toward the Creek Side Inn I felt like I had died and gone to heaven. I don’t think the weather or the location could have been any more amazing and Jinnie looked surreal as she walked through red colored sand in her white dress with a canopy of aspens gently casting the most beautiful glow over the scene.

Matthew was in the Navy for a number of years and Jinnie just graduated from ASU with her degree in photography.  Yes, she was the first bride I’ve ever had the privileged of shooting that understood everything about what was going on and what we were looking for.  She even made me blush when I showed her the back of my camera and she replied, “That’s a perfect looking histogram!”  Ok, I’m a total nerd, but it made me feel good that she appreciated it!  She was originally going to have some of her fellow graduates shoot the wedding, but then she made the decision to find us and give us the awesome opportunity to photograph her wedding.  We were only about 2 months from the date of the wedding when we first met and I was so excited we had the date available still.  I wouldn’t have wanted to miss this wedding for the world!

Now Jinnie and Matt are HUGE Suns fans.  I mean HUGE.   So big in fact, the entire wedding had details of purple and orange placed throughout!  From the purple and orange flowers lining the isle of the ceremony or the matching ties and dresses for the wedding party, Jinnie and Matt wanted their day to reflect their personality and their favorite team.  Now if the Suns decorated cake wasn’t the “icing on the cake” it was probably the fact that Matt got custom shoes made for the two of them that said “Bride and Groom,”  they were none other than Converse All-Stars!  And to top that off, he ordered custom, authentic game jerseys for each of his guys. As a life long Suns fan myself I had a blast with all of their fun ideas.

Matt and Jinnie both granted us access to the behind the scenes moments as they got ready and did their final preparations.  Jinnie’s hair and makeup looked amazing and my wife couldn’t get over how great her sisters looked in their purple dresses…  and because we could capture many of the images before the ceremony began the entire day was so relaxing and easy going.  I was getting excited for the ceremony as each moment passed.  It was going to be gorgeous.

It was a long walk down a pretty steep hill to get to the ceremony location but every step was worth it.  Jinnie pulled it off without even getting her dress dirty!  The entire scene was breathtaking.  Red sand below and towering cottonwoods above made for one of the most romantic weddings I’ve ever had the privilege of attending.  At one point there was even a mother Duck with her ducklings that came a long to take a look at the ceremony.  The entire affair was just beyond amazing.

Sedona Wedding Ceremony

After commandeering the purple couch from Jinnie’s bridal suite we headed off to take some amazing shots of Jinnie, Matt, and their wedding party.  A big thanks to the guys for hauling that antique couch down the hill and over the woods so Jinnie could look amazing!  Jinnie was particularly fond of a towering tree that split at the base where she wanted to get a group shot of the wedding pary.  They were all good sports and climbed up in the tree without a word of complaint!  They must really love her!  I thought they pulled off that shot quite nicely considering they were barely able to stay in one spot for very long.  Good job guys!

Jinnie and Matt totally rocked their couple shoot.  They had just experienced a romantic ceremony and now we were going to top it off with a great session with just the two of them for the time we had remaining before their grand entrance.  After a few frames they kicked off their formal shoes and laced up their Converse All-Stars so we could be sure to get a few shots of them for their spead in the Suns’ program and featured wedding on Suns.com.  Stay tuned for more next season when their wedding is featured!

Sedona Wedding Couple

After a few more couple photos we were headed off to the reception.  Perfect.. that’s the word that comes to mind.  Perfect lighting, perfect weather, perfect food, perfect atmosphere.  Everyone had a blast and got to soak in some of the Creek Side Inn’s charm as they ate under two huge white tents and danced the night away under a starry sky.  At Matt’s request a box of cigars was brought out and all the guys were gathered together for some “man time.”  Matt had seen a shot we did of Michael with a couple cigars and wanted to see what we could do.  I took probably 15 frames and had them sit VERY still.  Each exposure was just over a full second long… the final result was awesome… even if I might have had 10 years of second hand smoke in those short few moments!
